The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars are awards for artistic and technical excellence in the Entertainment Industry. They are regarded as the Nobel Prize in the entertainment industry around the world. the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) gives it annually.
This year unlike any other it was held with no host, no audience, nor face masks for nominees attending. The 93rd Academy Award at Los Angeles' Union Station — this year's hub.
BEST PICTURE,BEST DIRECTOR,BEST ACTRESS - Nomadland picked up three oscars.
Chloé Zhao won Best Director. She is the first woman of colour, and the second woman ever, to win the award. Nomadland also won the Best Picture award, as well as Best Actress for Frances McDormand.
Irrfan Khan honoured at the in memorium segment.
BEST ACTOR-Anthony Hopkins, in an upset, won the Best Actor award for The Father, pipping the late Chadwick Boseman.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR & ACTRESS- Daniel Kaluuya is a popular British actor working in Hollywood movies. He is famous for his roles in movies like Judas and the Black Messiah, Queen & Slim, Black Panther, etc., He received the best supporting actor award .Youn Yuh-Jung is a South Korean actress. She is famous for her roles in South Korean TV series and films. She gained international recognition from the film Minari. She also won Oscars 2021 best supporting actress.
BEST INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM-Another Round is a Danish comedy-drama film directed by Thomas Vinterberg.It stars Mads Mikkelsen,Thomas Bo Larsen,Magnus Millang,and Lars Ranthe. It's about four teachers who feel their life is unmotivated and boring .
Best Visual Effects- Tenet won Best Visual Effects .Scott R. Fisher, Andrew Jackson, David Lee and Andrew Lockley who created visual effects were honored.
Best Sound & Best Film Editing-Sound of Metal won 2021 Oscars in Best Sound and Best Film Editing Category. Jaime Bakshit, Nicolas Becker, Philip Bladh, Carlos Cortés and Michelle Couttolenc handled the sound department. Mikkel E.G.Nielsen edited the flick.
Best Animated Feature Film & Best Original Score- Soul
It is an American animated comedy movie directed by Pete Docter. It is produced by Pixar Animation Studios and the first Pixar film to feature African-American as the protagonist.. T Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Jon Batiste scored the music.
Apart from these Ann Roth became the oldest woman to win an Oscar. She won the Best Costume Design award for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
Emerald Fennell became the first woman in 13 years to win the Best Original Screenplay Oscar, while Mank's two wins put it ahead of the film it honored, Citizen Kane.
Anthony Hopkins picked up his second Oscar. He had previously won for The Silence of the Lambs. At 83, he is now the oldest actor to ever win an Oscar.
H.E.R., D'Mile, and Tiara Thomas are winners of Best Achievement in Original Song, for Fight for You, from Judas and the Black Messiah.
